How to Make Children Happy During the Holidays

Posted: December 21, 2011 | Posted by Natalia | 1 Comment

A week before Christmas: Most of our belongings stood scattered throughout our house in big, brown boxes, evidence of our third cross-state move in four years.

Yesterday: Many boxes remained stacked and sealed. We set out to buy a Christmas Tree.

There is a Home Depot 5 minutes from our house, but our tradition is to cut our own.  So we drive an hour to an earth-friendly tree farm, and an hour back.

Now, I have happy children and a house that smells like oranges — the distinctive smell of the Concolor Fir and Our House at Christmas time.

On this shortest day of the year, with hours of unpacking before me, it would feel as if there weren’t enough hours in the day.  My children reminded me to focus on what matters:  being present with them and enjoying each moment.

How are you celebrating?  What are the gifts and challenges in your home?  I’d love to hear!  Please leave a comment.

I love seeing the photos and hearing of your Christmas preparations.
I wanted to have Christmas at home this year, so it would be quiet and simple — and it’s turned out to be stressful and unpleasant. UNTIL TODAY! I am turning our Christmas train around (so to speak) and I am determined to do things I love, have fun with the kids, share, play, laugh and frolic! We will still have our quiet dinner and peaceful day — and we’re going to have fun on the lead up to it too! thanks for sharing, Natalia and happy holidays to you and your family!
